The duPont Library was constructed in 1980 in memory of Jessie Ball duPont, a member of Stratford Hall's first Board of Directors and a generous supporter of education and research.
The library serves as an educational classroom, meeting space and research facility (设施).In addition to its specialized reference collections of approximately 8,000 books on American history, biography, architecture and the decorative arts, the library holds special collections of more than 4,000 rare books, including manuscripts (手稿), historic photographs and so on.The library's collections are used by its staff as well as visiting researchers, teachers, students and the general public.
Requesting an Appointment
We welcome researchers of all ages.If you decide to visit the library, your first step is to schedule an appointment with the librarian by calling (804)4931940 or by emailing Judy Hynson.Please don't arrive without previous appointment.
Hours
The duPont Library is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Monday-Friday, except for:Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Day, New Year's Eve and Day and Presidents' Day.
Research Fees
Members of the duPont Library can research for free after making and confirming an appointment.They will be required to show their current membership card on registration.There is a charge for other researchers, payable by cash.
Registration
Upon arrival, please fill out a form which requires your signature and ID card.Jackets and large bags are prohibited in our research areas.We suggest that researchers lock personal belongings in their vehicles before entering the library.
Internship (实习) Opportunities
Paid internships are available for students who apply to work on special projects during the summer.Unpaid internships are requested by students who live within close distance.
